How Connecticut taxes your paycheck
Connecticut calculates withholding using five linked tables: personal exemptions, initial tax, a low-rate add-back, tax recapture, and a personal tax credit. A simple progressive tax bracket calculation would miss several of these adjustments.
The default assumes a completed CT-W4 and a single source of household wages: code F for single, code C for married joint with a nonworking spouse, and code B for head of household. The employer must use a different rule when no certificate has been filed.
Covered workers also contribute 0.5% to CT Paid Leave on FICA-covered wages up to the Social Security wage base. Traditional 401(k) deferrals do not reduce that contribution base.
Schedule effective 2026-01-01. Annual totals project this schedule over a full year; they do not reconstruct earlier 2026 checks.

Common paycheck questions
Why is Connecticut withholding more complicated than its tax brackets?
The state requires personal-exemption and tax-credit phase-outs, a 2% rate add-back, and higher-income tax recapture. This calculator includes those official tables.
Which Connecticut withholding code is used?
For a single-job estimate the defaults are F for single, B for head of household, and C for married joint with a nonworking spouse. Enter the code on your actual CT-W4 when it differs.
How much is CT Paid Leave in 2026?
The contribution is 0.5% of covered FICA wages up to $184,500 per employer, a maximum of $922.50.
How accurate is this Connecticut paycheck calculator?
It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.
