How Nebraska taxes your paycheck

Nebraska calculates payroll withholding from taxable wages after the allowances claimed on FormW-4 N. The 2026 percentage tables contain six rates, from 2.26% to 4.60%, and use distinct single and married payroll thresholds. Head-of-household employees use the single table.

Employers with more than 24 employees must check low withholding unless they hold documentation supporting it. If ordinary withholding falls below 1.5% of taxable wages, the guide permits a minimum equal to half the single-one-allowance or married-two-allowance result. The calculator includes this check.

Common paycheck questions

Why can claiming more allowances stop reducing Nebraska withholding?

A special minimum check applies to employers with more than 24 employees unless they hold documentation supporting lower withholding.

Does head-of-household status have a separate payroll table?

No. This estimate uses the single percentage table for head-of-household status.

What does the minimum-withholding option mean?

When ordinary withholding is below 1.5% of taxable wages, the selected procedure raises it to at least half the official single-one or married-two allowance baseline.

How accurate is this Nebraska paycheck calculator?

It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.
