How Washington taxes your paycheck

Washington does not impose a wage income tax for 2026. Two state programs can still reduce a covered employee's paycheck: Paid Family and Medical Leave and WA Cares long-term care coverage.

For 2026, the total Paid Leave premium is 1.13% of gross wages excluding tips, up to $184,500. The standard maximum employee share is 71.43% of that premium. The calculator assumes the employer withholds the full allowed employee share.

WA Cares is 0.58% of gross wages excluding tips, with no Social Security wage cap. An approved exemption or employer-paid employee share can change the deduction. Select the exemption option only when it applies to you.

Schedule effective 2026-01-01. Annual totals project this schedule over a full year; they do not reconstruct earlier 2026 checks.

Common paycheck questions

Does Washington have a state income tax in 2026?

No wage income tax applies for 2026. Paid Leave and WA Cares can still appear as payroll deductions.

How much is the 2026 Paid Leave employee premium?

The standard employee share is 71.43% of a 1.13% total premium on gross wages excluding tips, up to $184,500. Employers can pay some or all of the employee share.

Does WA Cares stop at the Social Security wage limit?

No. Its 0.58% premium has no wage cap. Approved exemptions and coverage rules may change whether it applies.

Does this include Washington workers compensation?

No fixed statewide employee rate applies. The amount depends on occupation and hours, so enter the actual deduction from your pay statement as an additional post-tax deduction.

How accurate is this Washington paycheck calculator?

It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.
