2026 official withholding rulesUpdated October 23, 2026Free & private

Oregon scope: with a withholding statement, the computer formula requires taxable wages minus the allowed federal withholding subtraction and payroll standard deduction to be zero or positive. If that amount is below zero, no estimate is provided; this does not mean no tax is due. Use the linked Oregon DOR calculator for those inputs. Without a withholding statement, the separate 8% rule applies instead. Oregon DOR withholding calculator

How Oregon taxes your paycheck

Oregon payroll withholding depends on taxable wages, federal income tax withheld and the allowances on Form OR-W-4. The 2026 formulas have separate calculations below and above $50,000, plus a federal-tax subtraction that phases out at higher income.

Three statewide employee deductions can also apply: Statewide Transit Tax, Paid Leave Oregon and the Workers Benefit Fund. They use different bases. Transit tax follows state taxable wages, Paid Leave uses gross wages before pretax deductions, and the Workers Benefit Fund is charged per hour worked.

Common paycheck questions

Why is a low-income estimate unavailable?

With a withholding statement, the published 2026 computer formula starts at a BASE of zero. If wages minus the allowed federal withholding subtraction and payroll standard deduction are negative, this calculator does not guess a tax. Use the Oregon DOR calculator linked above. Without a statement, the separate 8% rule applies. An unavailable estimate is not a zero-tax result.

Does Oregon deduct federal tax before calculating state withholding?

Yes. It subtracts federal income tax withheld up to the 2026$8,750 ceiling, with lower ceilings at higher incomes. FICA is not included in that subtraction.

Is Statewide Transit Tax 0.2% in 2026?

No. The current official guidance says continue withholding 0.1% after Measure 120 failed.

Why does this ask for hours even when I am salaried?

The Workers Benefit Fund employee share is 0.9 cents per hour worked in 2026. The default 2,080 hours is only an estimate; actual covered hours can differ.

Do local Portland-area taxes apply automatically?

No. Confirm none apply or enter your known total local withholding. State selection cannot establish local residence, work location or local-tax elections.

How accurate is this Oregon paycheck calculator?

It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.

Are my salary details stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser. Your entries are not sent to a calculation server, saved to local storage or used for advertising.
