How Tennessee taxes your paycheck
Tennessee has no state income tax on earned income and no state income-tax withholding requirement for ordinary wages. The former Hall tax applied to certain investment income and was repealed beginning January 1, 2021.
Tennessee unemployment insurance is funded by employers. Your salary, federal W-4 settings and benefit elections are the main inputs that change this estimate; the old Hall tax is not a payroll deduction.
Schedule effective 2026-01-01. Annual totals project this schedule over a full year; they do not reconstruct earlier 2026 checks.

Common paycheck questions
Does Tennessee take income tax out of my paycheck?
Tennessee does not impose state income tax on ordinary wages. Federal withholding and employee benefit deductions still apply.
Why is my take-home pay less than my salary divided by the number of checks?
Gross pay is reduced by federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, and the retirement or health deductions you enter. Extra W-4 withholding also reduces each check.
Can I use this estimate if I work in another state?
This page assumes you live and work in the same state. Working across state lines can create withholding duties that are not included here.
How accurate is this Tennessee paycheck calculator?
It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.
Are my salary details stored?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. Your entries are not sent to a calculation server, saved to local storage or used for advertising.
