How Kansas taxes your paycheck
Kansas uses two positive withholding rates, 5.2% and 5.58%, after a payroll zero-rate band and K-4 allowances. The current employer guide contains the schedules effective July 1, 2024, which remain the published schedules for 2026.
A head of household uses the single rate table and receives an additional dependent-sized allowance. Married employees with a working spouse can use the higher single schedule to reduce the risk of withholding too little.
| Item | Current 2026 withholding rule |
|---|---|
| Positive rates | 5.2% and 5.58% |
| Personal allowance | $9,160 single; $18,320 married one earner annually |
| Additional allowance | $2,320 per dependent; one additional amount for head of household |
| Schedules | Use published payroll-period thresholds and base tax amounts |
These are employee payroll withholding rules. Your final income tax return may use different deductions, credits or rates.

Common paycheck questions
Does Kansas have a separate head-of-household tax table?
Heads of household use the single payroll table but can claim an additional $2,320 annual withholding allowance.
Why are the tables older than 2026?
The Department of Revenue continues to publish the July 2024 schedules as the current withholding schedules. A table does not need a new year label when its rules have not changed.
How accurate is this Kansas paycheck calculator?
It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.
