How Maryland taxes your paycheck

Maryland withholding includes both a state amount and a county amount. This calculator follows the official 2026 annual percentage withholding tables, which start at 4.75% for the state portion. The lower rates used on a final income-tax return are not the same withholding schedule.

The annual payroll formula subtracts a $3,400 standard deduction and $3,200 for each MW507 allowance. County tax uses the employee residence selected below. Anne Arundel applies marginal bands; Frederick selects one rate for the entire taxable amount.

Maryland FAMLI contributions start in January 2027. No FAMLI employee contribution is deducted from a 2026 paycheck in this calculator.

Schedule effective 2026-01-01. Annual totals project this schedule over a full year; they do not reconstruct earlier 2026 checks.

Common paycheck questions

Why does Maryland need my county?

Maryland county income tax is based on where you live. Most counties use a single rate, but Anne Arundel and Frederick have income-based rules.

Does Maryland deduct paid family leave from 2026 pay?

The state FAMLI program begins collecting contributions in January 2027, so it has no 2026 deduction in this calculator.

Why might this differ from the state online calculator?

This page implements the published 2026 annual percentage withholding table. We found and documented a $52.50 annual difference in one official online comparison; the online tool and the printed percentage method should not be treated as interchangeable.

How accurate is this Maryland paycheck calculator?

It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.
