How Montana taxes your paycheck

Montana's 2026 withholding tables use 4.7% and 5.65%, with separate schedules for single, married and head-of-household employees. The tables include the deduction offset, so the calculator does not subtract a second federal standard deduction.

Montana MW-4 no longer uses personal withholding allowances. A married employee who marks the both-spouses-working box uses the single schedule.

Montana · 2026 withholding rules
Item2026 withholding rule
Rates4.7%, then 5.65%
Single annual deduction offset$16,100
Married annual deduction offset$32,200
Head-of-household annual deduction offset$24,150
Upper rate begins, annual wages$63,600 single; $127,200 married; $95,400 head of household

These are employee payroll withholding rules. Your final income tax return may use different deductions, credits or rates.

Common paycheck questions

How are two working spouses handled?

Checking the both-spouses-working option applies the same payroll table used for single employees.

How accurate is this Montana paycheck calculator?
