How Pennsylvania taxes your paycheck

Pennsylvania withholds personal income tax at 3.07% of taxable compensation. Filing status does not change this flat rate. Unlike federal withholding, an employee traditional 401(k) contribution does not reduce Pennsylvania taxable compensation.

The employee unemployment contribution is another deduction: 0.07% of gross wages with no annual wage ceiling. Local earned income tax, local services tax and Philadelphia wage tax can also affect a paycheck; enter the amount applicable to your actual home and work locations.

Common paycheck questions

Does a 401(k) contribution reduce Pennsylvania withholding?

A traditional employee contribution reduces federal income wages but remains taxable compensation for Pennsylvania personal income tax.

Does Pennsylvania stop employee unemployment withholding at a wage cap?

No. The 2026 employee contribution is 0.07% of gross wages without an annual ceiling.

How are local taxes included?

Confirm that none apply or provide the combined known local deduction per paycheck. The calculator does not infer local rates from the state alone.

How accurate is this Pennsylvania paycheck calculator?

It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.
