How Rhode Island taxes your paycheck

Rhode Island uses the same payroll percentage table for all filing statuses. RI W-4 allowances reduce wages before the table is applied, but no allowance is permitted when pay exceeds the 2026 income cutoff. The withholding rates are 3.75%, 4.75% and 5.99%.

Covered employees also fund Temporary Disability and Caregiver Insurance through a 1.1% contribution on the first $100,000 of 2026 subject wages. Rhode Island specifically excludes employee retirement and qualifying benefit-plan contributions from that wage base.

Common paycheck questions

Does married filing status change the Rhode Island withholding table?

No. All statuses use the same percentage table. The allowance count on RI W-4 can change withholding.

Do 401(k) and health deductions reduce Rhode Island TDI wages?

The DLT excludes employee contributions to retirement, medical, disability and Section 125 plans from both total and taxable employment-tax wages.

What is the 2026 employee TDI maximum?

At 1.1% of the first $100,000 of subject wages, the maximum for one employer is $1,100.

How accurate is this Rhode Island paycheck calculator?

It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.
