How Vermont taxes your paycheck
Vermont withholding follows the 2026 percentage table for the selected pay frequency and the allowances on Form W-4VT. Head of household uses the single withholding table.
The marginal withholding segments are 3.35%, 6.60%, 7.60% and 8.75%. Each allowance has an official per-paycheck value; the calculator uses those published values rather than substituting federal W-4 deductions.
Employers may withhold up to 0.11% of covered wages for the Child Care Contribution. It applies to federal income-tax withholding wages, so traditional 401(k) and qualified Section 125 health deductions reduce the modeled contribution base.
Schedule effective 2026-01-01. Annual totals project this schedule over a full year; they do not reconstruct earlier 2026 checks.
| Item | 2026 rule |
|---|---|

Common paycheck questions
Is the Vermont Child Care Contribution the same as income tax?
No. It is a separate contribution. Employers owe 0.44% of covered wages and may pass at most 0.11% to employees.
Does my federal W-4 control Vermont withholding?
This model assumes you supplied W-4VT. Enter the allowances from that state form; federal credits and extra withholding do not automatically become state elections.
How accurate is this Vermont paycheck calculator?
It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.
Are my salary details stored?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. Your entries are not sent to a calculation server, saved to local storage or used for advertising.
