How North Dakota taxes your paycheck

North Dakota uses its own annual percentage withholding table for a 2020-or-later federal W-4. The calculation uses annual taxable wages and the selected federal filing status; it does not subtract federal standard deductions again.

The withholding table has a zero-rate wage band followed by 1.95% and 2.50% segments. Its thresholds are payroll withholding thresholds, so they should not be mistaken for the final state-return brackets.

This estimate follows the official worked example by rounding withholding to a whole dollar for each paycheck. No state employee unemployment contribution is deducted.

Schedule effective 2026-01-01. Annual totals project this schedule over a full year; they do not reconstruct earlier 2026 checks.

Common paycheck questions

Why can North Dakota withholding be zero even on a full-time salary?

The 2026 payroll tables include a zero-rate wage band. It depends on W-4 filing status and is not a guarantee of zero final tax.

Does the calculator use an old allowance-based W-4?

No. It uses the official method for a 2020-or-later W-4.

How accurate is this North Dakota paycheck calculator?

It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.

Are my salary details stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser. Your entries are not sent to a calculation server, saved to local storage or used for advertising.
