How Utah taxes your paycheck

Utah's current payroll schedules use 4.45%, effective June 1, 2026. A base allowance reduces the withholding at lower pay levels and phases out as wages rise. The allowance and phaseout starting point depend on the pay frequency.

Utah uses the federal W-4 filing status, with head of household assigned to the single schedule. It does not subtract federal W-4 personal allowances from the taxable wage base.

Schedule effective 2026-06-01. Annual totals project this schedule over a full year; they do not reconstruct earlier 2026 checks.

Common paycheck questions

Does Utah withholding equal 4.45% of every paycheck?

At lower pay levels, a payroll-period allowance reduces withholding. Once the allowance phases out, the 4.45% calculation applies without that reduction.

Which schedule applies to heads of household?

Utah directs heads of household to use its single withholding schedule.

How accurate is this Utah paycheck calculator?
