How Hawaii taxes your paycheck

Hawaii publishes an annualized payroll method that subtracts $1,144 for each HW-4 withholding allowance and a further $4,350 lump-sum allowance. Single employees and unmarried heads of household use the same withholding schedule.

The official payroll schedule starts at 1.4% and reaches 7.9%. These are withholding rates, not a complete calculation of final Hawaii tax liability; high earners may need additional withholding.

Hawaii TDI is an insurance contribution with an employer-specific premium. Enter the actual employee TDI deduction from your payroll or insurance plan; the legal limits alone do not establish your actual deduction.

Schedule effective 2026-01-01. Annual totals project this schedule over a full year; they do not reconstruct earlier 2026 checks.

Common paycheck questions

Does Hawaii use a different payroll table for head of household?

The official annualized withholding method groups unmarried heads of household with single employees. The final income-tax return can use different rules.

Is Hawaii TDI always 0.5%?

No. The employee contribution is limited to half the insurance premium and cannot exceed 0.5% of weekly wages or $7.50 per week in 2026. Your employer can pay more of the premium.

Does the calculator include health coverage?

Enter your actual employee health-insurance deduction. Hawaii Prepaid Health Care costs depend on the employer plan.

How accurate is this Hawaii paycheck calculator?

It estimates regular wages using official 2026 withholding rules and the assumptions shown. Bonuses, multiple jobs, credits, employer plans and year-to-date pay can change actual checks. Compare the result with your pay stub and withholding certificates.
